[The recording buzzes to life, a ticking of an old, analogue clock can be heard for several seconds alongside pen to paper before a voice can be heard]
M: Interview beginning, reference one, interviewing [BLEEEP] in regards to former Gorlex Marauder Snowdrop Snothborn.
W: W-wait this interview is about Snowdrop? You said this was for something else… I-I, don’t know if I’m comfor-
M: Quiet Commander, yes the original intention was a ruse to get you here, you wouldn’t have willingly come otherwise we both know that. So I will ask a series of simple questions and I need them answered as full as possible, understood?.
W: J-Ja r-right…
M: Right so… How do we come into the possession of one of Gorelx’s most decorated Mechwarriors?
W: W-well it was during the attack on four-sixty-eight. The one we managed to be ready for and get a jump on them, we had blown up two of their boarding shuttles outright, during the f-fighting we landed a direct rocket on Snowdrops mech according to r-reports… They were sent into space where t-t-hey drifted before being retrieved by one of our screening shuttles… We brought them onto our cruiser and processed them like the other prisoners… I was assigned to interrogate and process them further… My first and… Only time doing it…
:M: Right, and your experiences Interrogating Snowdrop was what lead to you signing a refusal to interrogate form correct?
W: J-ja t-that is c-correct…
ML Would you mind going into detail on what happened? You may take your time as I know recounting the memories will likely be somewhat… Traumatic…
W: R-right…
M Take your time.
W: Snowdrop… Snow.. Snowdrop wouldn’t budge… I remember the fire in their eyes, a hatred so fierce that only someone with a very existence dedicated to hating yours could muster…. T-they spat… S-struggled… S-...Screamed.. [Pause, Muffled] Oh the screams…
[A several long seconds pass in the recording, a light scribbling of pen to paper is heard faintly on the microphone in addition to the ticking noise of the clock being more present in the silence]
M: Are, you alright?
W: J-Ja … J-just a second here…
[Tick… Tock… Tick… Tock]
W: R-right… So the p-proccess went on for a w-week, the first few days w-were unfruitful, b-but I could see that fire dying in their eyes… Every shock… Prod… Slice… The blood… The Smell… [Shuffling, muffled] Oh Lorhd… T-they smelled like a corpse after day four… [Sniffle, Unmuffled] E-eventually they barely responded to questioning, I think one of my staff at the time had d-done something to knock a screw too loose… B-but on day seven something snapped in them, another c-commander had stepped in and was… Far l-less gentle… T-The screams I still hear in the n-n-night sometimes…
[Soft sobbing into fabric can be heard, more scribbling, sniffles and a wipe of a nose later…]
W: B-but w-what I meant by s-snapping is they spilled a w-whole bunch of information, m-most of it gibberish or useless but they d-did provide info on their new m-mauler pattern mech… W-when we were done the o-other commander wanted them simply disposed of but… I-I couldn’t bear to let that happen.. S-so I filed a loyalty implant form and h-had them implanted… I felt so awful after everything I had seen them go through… I accepted the responsibility of caring for them… I-It took months of medical work to get them how they are today… S-some days they’re barely … T-There… A-and some days they’re p-perfectly fine…
M: You feel bad, for torturing a syndicate operative? Someone who tried to kill you? You took the responsibility ot caring for someone who would have probably thrown you out a disposal chute if the roles were reversed? Colour me curious…
W: J-Ja! ! I took pity on someone who I looked i-into the eyes of and saw g-genuine fear and terror, the s-screams and b-blood are still burned into my memory! I feel so awful for what I did… I felt a d-duty to take care of their broken form a-afterwards…
M: I believe I understand properly, I too have had some… Similar experiences in the past and can sympathise somewhat with you… We will continue this interview at a later date and go into specifics on after the whole… Interrogation.
W: W-why! I don’t want to relive those memories again and tell you everything!
M: Sector oversight wants to know, Commander. It is not negotiable
[A click and a fizzle as the recording seems to end abruptly]
