Ling only / centric antag rounds are really boring- either the ling(s) go loud and get caught within the first 20 minutes (or soon after they go loud if security is staffed, competent, and aware), or they play smart and slowly (SLOWLYYYYY) rack up kills as they cover their tracks, eventually getting caught by sec and then shortly removing them from the round (and thus resulting in a low activity shift with low midround antag spawns and no other interesting game events occuring)
The main issue with ling only rounds is that there is no real end to the round- the lings get caught and the station carries on as normal- there is no incentive to call evacuation, and I feel like things stagnate very quick as lings start dropping over time (WHICH IS FINE! Ling is very hard by design)
I would say we should remove ling only rounds or otherwise have a different scheduler to give things to do for the station- higher midrounds would probobly be a good idea to start with, though other discussions, like having a few traitors in, would also be a good alternative.
Of course, I do think ling is a great antag and can work perfectly, but as soon as lings are outed basically noone with any sense ventures into maints or risks getting lost for an extended period of time as med works to revive them, or otherwise gets round removed by virtue of noone finding their body (which gives a very high incentive to NOT venture into anywhere even remotely dangerous)
Lings on their own are heavily countered by common sense, and having some additional chaos (via midround spawns or otherwise) would help greatly to offset issues people have with knowing how they work and how to counter them very effectively- I think it's very interesting when lings and syndies have maints battles, syndicate agents needing the anonymity and silence of maintenance in order to complete their objectives.
I'm going to do further research into lings and how often they are successful in general- and how long or active solo ling rounds are, via the replay system, but sadly it appears to be down for maintenance right now and I do not feel like downloading multiple rounds onto my computer just to check the end round text, but please let me know if this is interesting to you or if I'm just making shit up out of a few rounds I've personally had to slog through.
