I keep going back to this thread: https://forum.spacestation14.com/t/suggestions-for-improvements-of-the-librarian-role/5612
I think the librarian role should have more important responsibilities. Book artefacts sound interesting, but the ones I'm more interested in are mass media console and archiving.
I do think that every librarian should have access to a news manager console - maybe more for publishing articles than reported "news." Every library has way too many bookshelves for the amount of books in a game, so surely a few bookshelves can be removed to make room for a news manager console? Maybe.
The one I'm really interested in is archiving. I think it would make sense that NT would request the activities and happenings on station to be recorded and archived. Stuff like significant medical instances (death, revive, cloning, surgeries), crimes and legal issues on the station, research progress; things NT would want to know about. Of course, there's the issue of how the librarian would know about all these events. I think it would be cool if locations like Medbay, Sec, Law, Science (and of course the library too) had a little computer where you could log the events. Maybe there's a form you can fill in for each event, with a drop down menu of type of event, estimate of time, reason (for death or crime-related reports), and name of individual involved. The form would be sent to the library, and the librarian would have to record it down and archive it.
Of course I a) don't know if this is possible or realistic to be made and b) am heavily biased because I really like being librarian and wish there was more to do. And this is all assuming that the other departments would want to put in extra effort.
idk this might be stupid LOL I just want more stuff to do besides organizing shelves and possibly playing TTRPG >_<
