Niklaz So the argument is that possible brawls that can arise from a roleplayed act of violence are a problem and the solution to it is Ahelping first? How does Ahelping stop the act of violence that will follow from causing the possible brawl?
It's to give additional context when admins do an investigation around it. We already state in our admin policy that we will Ahelp to make sure that things in-game are kept contextualized so we can avoid immersion breaks and potential rulebreaks. A ban is a last resort and we've been heavy handed with our EORG bans recently because of how frequently they happen. You're free to disagree with this, but I believe I address your concerns near the end.
Niklaz Even tho its obvious you can identify who started the brawl by how that person has been banned and justification of the act can also be provided post incident which kind of ruins the purpose of the suggestion.
No, it is not immediately obvious. We keep extensive logs and do our best to avoid false bans if possible but things happen. It's better to leave us an Ahelp, even if you do not get a response, because it is logged. We will Ahelp if we see violence at CC and do want to hear what happened, because some instances of violence are fully justified in RP.
Niklaz Also if you just said that you guys dont want violence at CC due to being uncontrollable and able to escalate then why do you allow it in the first place?
We want to be able to trust our players. Doing a blanket ban isn't the solution, and I address your suggestion in the next section.
Niklaz Why do people have to get banned even tho they are following the rules completely? Wont pacifying people that arrive on CC just fix every issue that violence may cause?
People don't get banned for following the rules. If the OP wants to make an appeal they can, as I can't speak on whether the ban that was placed was valid or not because we have not done a full investigation regarding it, until the OP makes an appeal.
And we do not want to implement that, I've been against it and do not feel it is worth implementing. We want to be able to trust our players with RP and pacifying people at CC just isn't the solution. Other MRP servers do this and in my personal experience it feels limiting and not very fun. That's why I don't want to do it here.
Niklaz (also im not sure how great of an idea is to apply rules that not only are not written down as rules but rules that some admins and mods apparently dont agree with or approve)
I'm not quite sure what this means, so I'll ignore it.
In any case, an update to our rules is needed to reflect what is stated on the Wiki. We also will add a section to encourage players to Ahelp potential behavior that may be seen as EORG before they arrive at CentComm. Thank you and the OP for pointing out this blaring discrepancy. We will also add a disclaimer (for players to Ahelp) to our other rules that players have been having trouble with, as it will help both players have a better experience on Funky Station as well as make enforcement of these rules much more consistent.
A recent example I can think of is the Head of Security going ahead and creating a plea deal with a confirmed syndicate for their freedom, despite it going against what the Guidebook says. Because of this situation, we are now editing SOP and the Guidebook to reflect this, because we saw great RP emerge from it, and that is our primary concern. This is why we encourage players to Ahelp, so we can do things like this and potentially learn from what emerges from these scenarios.
Thank you for your responses and I hope this addresses your concerns.
