EORG/validhunting warning - crit a known heretic as botanist because security didn't detain them
What lead up to the warn:
Cosmic Cult round, i was playing my character Nharne Dhaled who is a very jumpy and sometimes overly hostile Vulp. they have anger issues, and i try to play this as accurately as i can without being a shitter.
for almost the entire shift, i just stuck to my little corner of Hyodrponics, screaming and crying whenever cult rifts opened up nearby. i very actively chose not to engage with the cult the entire round - or even leave my department for that matter - and the cult never really engage with me. i just sat tight and waited for the chaplain to fix things as i should have.
evac arrives, and the cult attempts to storm the shuttle. they're very quickly put out of comission, and the person at the head of the raid gets dragged into med. i'm not even sure if sec exists at this point, it seems like everybody in sec gear is just a part of a militia. so when they get dragged in, i decide to take their contraband into bridge, since i'm basically just trying to suck up to command at this point. IIRC i don't thoroughly search them, i just take whatever's evidently a command thing and leave it in bridge for the remaining command to use as they wish.
evac lands at CC, and i see this guy being dragged into CC medical. now, obviously, they need to be revived at some point. but having just seen how much contraband was on them, and seeing as they were the one leading the charge into evac, i start grabbing at them and telling people they need to be cuffed first. most people agree with me! so i drag the body to sec, and try to find literally anybody to help me. the chaplain starts dragging the guy away, though, and the cult leader ends up standing back up. they take like a half a second before booking it away. in my head, this is obviously going to be terrible, given what they JUST tried to do, and there is seemingly not a single security officer at CC. so, i do what i figure is the only responsible thing, and knock them back out. it took a single knife swing.
a security cadet finally walks by, i try to get the cult leader cuffed, but the cadet ignores me and someone drags the cult leader into medical. at this point i am dealing with the ahelp, and the rest of my round is me locked in security because the cadet did not even bother letting me out.
Why you should be unwarned:
the person who originally ahelped me about it (ZoeticGrenade) did so exclusively on the basis of EORG.
to me, this does not feel like validhunting, and it certainly is not EORG. i feel the warning does a poor job explaining what happened, and i do not even believe the basis of it was justified. to me, from what the admin (ZoeticGrenade) said, it felt like they were just watching the admin logs waiting for someone to commit harm, and did not seem to want to hear my side of the story, nor the context of the round.
within the context of the round, it seems as though the entire crew had become a militia against the cult, and security was essentially wiped out. i feel this is already justification enough to try and help the situation from getting any worse, but even then, i almost entirely stayed away from the threat of the round and only really tried helping when i seemed to be the only person who could help in one specific situation, considering nobody else seemed to care about it.
i also feel that the other admin (RealQueso) entering the conversation partway through, as well as the server shutdown happening right before i could respond to the final admin message, both severely impacted my ability to respond to the original admin's claims. it seems pretty evident that the warning admin (RealQueso) did not actually know about the round that had occurred before the warn, and were just going based off how they interpreted the original conversation with ZoeticGrenade. i feel this is easily shown by them referring to the cult leader as a heretic. (if they were a heretic, i had no idea. i only knew they were a culstist and had opened fire on evac.)
i don't feel i did a good job properly explaining myself, either, as i had just kind of assumed that ZoeticGrenade had understood what had happened previously in the round and that i did not actually have to explain the context leading up to me dropping the cultist back into crit. but looking back, i can only really assume they did not understand the actual reasoning behind me finding the cultist dangerous enough to ensure their safe capture by security, nor did they seem to know that security was basically entirely gone.
on a final and personal note, i would like to explain why i'm even bothering submitting this appeal, and taking so much time to try and detail my rebuttal when it's not even a ban. while this warning did make me particularly frustrated, the biggest reason i care so deeply about this is that i would like to apply for admin on this server. i really like this server, and i like the community it has fostered, and i want to help play a part in its continuation. so while i always try to be as clean when it comes to rules as i can, i feel that now especially is a bad time to have a mark against my name, especially one that feels as needlessly frustrating as this.
i hope i did not paint any of the admins involved in a bad light, or came across as rebuking the warning in bad faith. i really do not mean to be rude, at all, and any hostility only comes from my own annoyance at the situation, not a particular dislike or anger towards those involved.
