What lead up to the ban:
It seems like the admin team noticed that I AFK for prolonged amount of time in 2 games in a row and banned me.
In reality, I have been AFK in more games - my honest estimate would be around 5-6 games over the last 4 days where I was AFK at some point during the round.
Why you should be unbanned:
I’d like to apologise to the staff and players affected by my ban (be it your time reading this and/or other inconveniences!).
What I was doing while AFK:
While AFK, I was reading the Funky Station guidebook/Wiki, server-specific rules, digging through the broader SS14 wiki, brainstorming some RP dialogue and writing / testing chat-based role-play scripts in game (while trying to be as non-disruptive as possible). I made a conscious decision to do it while being on the server/AFK for 2 reasons: 1) Firstly, ease of access to the guidebook that I used to cross check some information online + ability to test my scripts in game. 2) IC-wise, I liked the idea that my character was in a training session while I was learning the game.
Before stepping away I warned the nearby crew in-game so no one would rely on me or wonder where I am. I also double-checked the server rules beforehand and saw nothing that explicitly prohibits going AFK, which is why I assumed it was acceptable so long as I am not disruptive to the gameplay. And I tried to do it in low-pop times in the morning (Im based in BST), and when the server was at full capacity I wasn't going AFK, as that would be unfair to the players who actively want to be engaged with the gameplay instead.
Why I believe a ban feels unfair, and what I hope for:
I couldn’t find an explicit rule on prolonged AFK. I apologise if I am missing it somewhere, but if it's indeed not written - I would ask for it to officially be registered as a rule. I genuinely enjoy Funky Station - the community has been super fun, and the admin team has been super helpful, they always answered my questions in game and even have shown me some features themselves. I'm happy to spend the full three-day timeout (and spend it on more learning/script writing hehe ) if the staff feels my behaviour falls under “Don't be an Asshole” rule, I will accept it and I will change how I do my prep/learning - will not do it while online on the server.
My biggest worry about this ban is the permanent note on my record. I don’t want this incident to affect future perceptions of me as a potential helper or contributor. I hope this appeal can clear up the AFK guidelines and keep the door open for me to give back to the server in the future.
