this isn't really a feature persay, but i would actually die for a RMC fork themed around WW1 (with a respawn system)!
imagine it! engineering would have factorio type gameplay where they had to manufacture artillery, guns, ammo, and other supplies needed to keep their side supplied, cargo would be responsible for delivering these items to the soldiers on the frontlines, medical would obviously do their normal thing, science WOULD be in the server and be responsible for researching better weaponry and armour (maybe having to deconstruct enemy gear and perform autopsies on corpses) and command would make sure the troops are organized and deployed in a way to hold the line and hopefully break through the other team's trench while managing where the reinforcement are deployed (as to not lock people out of playing for hours after dying)
the rounds would be LONG but that's why reinforcements are a gameplay mechanic.
the gameplay loop would go:
-start: initial wave is briefed and deployed to the front lines, the priority is digging the initial trenches and setting up some basic defenses, some light raiding is the only combat at the time. ~ 20-30 minutes
-midgame: trench defenses are built up and platoon sized waves are sent on occassion, science works on getting better gear researched and engineering has to make a surplus of weapons in preparation for the final wave. general trench warfare and artillery bombardments is the main combat for this section. ~ 2-4 hours, the majority of the round.
-endgame: there are two situations that lead to this-
- engineering has built up a surplus of armaments for the troops and science has researched the best gear available (maybe even transport tanks?), the entire team charges the other team at once, resulting in a desperate fight for survival on the other side.
- one side has nearly ran out of reinforcements or armaments, having to use everything left in a desperate attempt to overwhelm the other side and take their trench(es) ~ 10-30 minutes
players are honestly not expected to stay the whole round and instead stay for a little while and maybe participate in a charge or two before leaving and being replaced by a new player to keep the "fresh meat" feeling of the reinforcements. obviously this isn't planned out fully, i can already imagine problems with people not valuing their life enough, metagaming, and generally not RPing enough but it's just an idea i've been sitting on since first playing RMC and will likely never get turned into a server but goddamn can a man hope.
