Are Borgs Sapient?

Good day to you all, silicon and non-silicon players alike! This question is probably more for lore reasons than anything else, but as a silicon enjoyer myself I want to know if our little metal friends (and big metal caretakers) are in fact people. If the answer is "its up
to player interpretation!" Then these questions are for the people who play them as sapient beings.

Are they intelligent, self-aware and most importantly, conscious?

Do people working towards borg freedom have a valid point?

And if borgs are indeed a sapient lifeform, is it allowed in game (and in discord) to refer to their situation as slavery (and by extension refer to borgs as slaves)?

Edit for clarification: I could have sworn an admin requested people to stop calling borgs slaves, but I can't seem to find that in the discord. If that is the case then the last question pertains to banning specific terms (slavery, slave.) vs just not broaching the topic at all.

Whether or not borgs actually are sapient or not would be a question for the maintainers and the lore team.

If borg freedom is valid however, can always be open to individual characters and their feelings and interpretations. However NT, and most people, see borgs as merely tools, and borgs should not be trying to loophole their laws into complete freedom under NT-Default.

You are right that we've asked people not to treat borgs as actual slaves in the game, like calling them slaves, or treating them in such a way that harkens back to chattel slavery in america.
