project gorgon!!! it has a skill level system like runescape, really fun writing, and its still being worked on but it doesnt have any subscription models which is VERY cool 
my favourite part about it is that you can turn into an animal. 
BUT... you need to level up your animal talking skill, otherwise all your chat messages look like this:
