Another Question on Command Escalation

Recently I've been told that the admins are generally enforcing escalation rules more strongly than they were enforced previously, particularly when it comes to command escalating. Apparently the rule of thumb is that Command must always ask Security to deal with the situation first, and then they can maybe escalate? (I've gotten some mixed responses on that part.)

Anyway, my question is whether it's appropriate for Command members to order, bribe, or otherwise instruct other people to escalate as high as crit on their behalf (in other words, sending a hired goon after someone as Command). The reason I ask is because I was previously operating under the impression that this is fine to do for a Command member (and I think it's more believable for a Command member to enact violence in a way that doesn't get their hands dirty), but I don't want to find out the hard way that this isn't allowed.

Hiya Goobie,

the admins are generally enforcing escalation rules more strongly than they were enforced previously, particularly when it comes to command escalating. Apparently the rule of thumb is that Command must always ask Security to deal with the situation first, and then they can maybe escalate?

Reasonable escalation has always been acceptable. Under most circumstances you should inform security of incidents, but if a command member sees someone about to commit station sabotage, or has the potential to do so; such as unauthorized crew being in the atmospherics, or an engine room of the engineering department. The command member may escalate via verbal warning, physical warning; smacking them once or twice, and if the person ignores orders after that; the command member may: crit them, relocate them to medical, and inform security.
Do note all warnings should be proportionate to the actions taken by the afflicted party. A good example of improper escalation is the command member critting crew over insubordination that doesn't lead to the imminent death of crew; flooding plasma into the reactor after being told not to is grounds for critting, or trespass in low stakes areas such as a main lobby.

Command members may bribe, or instruct crew to deal with something using their best judgement. If you as the command member order a subordinate to crit someone, and it was improper; you as a member of command may be held accountable. Command players are held to a higher standard, and their authority does come with added responsibilities. Regardless of that responsibility corruption is acceptable, and with the current theming of funky is something we hope for.
