Why were IPCs removed?

hi funky admins! i'm just curious as to what the reasoning behind IPCs being removed instead of reworked/rebalanced was?
i do know that they were never the most balanced species (insane self heal potential, naturally spaceproof, ease of replacement parts) and they never worked well with some antags (Zeds, the cults, and heretic iirc) but they were my favorite species to play salvager as and i miss them :(

TLDR you kind of said if yourself. It was a when you code it moment. Remaking an already broken race (mind you, I was an IPC player before they were removed), takes a lot of time and no one was really up for it.

Coding and rework take a lot of time.

Also this is a development question, not an admin questions (Admins are not devs, some overlap occurs with Admins who do help contribute but that does not make us devs) but I'm answering it anyways.

makes sense i suppose, better to cut something that's not working well off rather than dedicate development time to rework it into something new.
also i didn't see a development questions section of the forum? i would have posted it there if i had though.

I can talk to Catty about adding one for development, but typically it is best to ask in the #development channel on the discord.

Sort of necro'ing. Apologies but this might help.
It is the link to the github commit that removed IPCs, containing the reasoning from Taydeo:

nah, less than a week isn't necroposting at all.

i looked through the github commit you attached and found two people who had some good ideas:
IPC rework-

Code: Select all

https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1FF5_0vj9No0FZXsekkAExuY4NziUi1bd_8OMM368qCA/mobilebasic

IPC replacement-

Code: Select all

https://github.com/funky-station/docs/pull/33

now i'm (obviously) not very important and my opinion sure as hell isn't going to get anything done but i like these ideas that give IPCs a niche they make sense for (hazard resistant workers) while making them not the same "meta" species as they were, in all honesty i just want a species that has that "mechanical" sort of feel that synths sadly don't have.
