Have you helped with whitelists before, or played Nanotrasen Career Trainer on New Player Weekend? Please elaborate on which one.
I have played NanoTrasen Career Trainer on multiple occasions, totaling around six hours. But I've never helped with any whitelists.
What tips you off that a player might be a good fit for Funky, if anything?
That player putting roleplay before "winning or losing", and not treating Space Station 14 as a competitive game but rather as a social space with mechanical aspects. Something else I'd look for would be casual chats and small talk, especially when unrelated to their job, or complex emotes that aren't just @laughs. Something that would tip me off on a player being a bad fit would be someone meta/powergaming and threading the fine line between being knowledgeable and mechanic abusing.
Have you ever had an interesting or fun experience helping a new player? If so, tell us about it.
I once was NCT on New Player Weekend and helped three Medical Interns at once, by teaching them all about topicals, chemicals and the differences between Funky Station and other servers. I had fun! I also taught Engineering to more experienced players that had never touched the department before, and I often had Interns as HoP to whom I taught some tips and tricks. I really enjoy teaching people in topics I like!
How do you like to teach interns or new players, if at all?
By briefly explaining what needs to be done, and letting the new player do it themselves so that they may learn by practice! Missing that, I try my best to explain the underlying theory. I always attempt to keep it all In Character, but sometimes I resort to Help chat, and I once had to ask an Admin for a Help Chat message top-up.
What areas of the game would you say are your strong suit, if any?
I would say my strong suit is roleplay and interaction with other players. I also tend to follow SOP and often remember it by heart.
What is your favorite department? Why is it your favorite department?
I couldn't for the life of me choose a favorite! If not for maybe Command, if we want to consider it a department, because I like the dynamic of being a departmental head, or Service, since it's very roleplay-centric and I get to talk to most crewmembers.
Tell us a fun fact you know about the game. The more niche, the better.
Some fun facts:
-
Shift-clicking an UI button (e.g. tech disk terminal "Print" button) does nothing.
-
The AI's holopads do not reciprocate any of the AI's emotes except for @spins! and @does a flip!, which make an emote pop up from the holopad, but otherwise do nothing.
-
Entropic Colossi can flush themselves down disposals.
Tell us about a roleplay moment you fondly remember.
It was my first Nuclear Operative round, and I didn't use my death acidifier implant. Eventually, we got defeated, and I, being the only survivor, was brought in for questioning. I complied, and made up a backstory for my Nuclear Operative character, got shut in Perma and turned into a very obedient prisoner, to the point where a Cyborg tried to drag me out, but I called Security on myself with a Security Radio they'd left me. This level of compliance led to me being able to walk myself to the EVAC shuttle without cuffs, and RP about being reintegrated into NT ranks at CC.
Are you committed to keeping up with mechanics changes and learning them so you may teach new players, and presenting a friendly, helpful face in our community?
Yes! I'm always eager to learn myself, and I enjoy teaching.
Are you willing to assist admins with whitelists by helping look over and pre-approve them?
Obviously! I'd be happy to foster the next generation of Funky Station players.
