Briefly describe the background and/or personality of a character you enjoy playing (Can be SS14, DND, or a character you just made up!):
Sebastian Roe is a DND Cleric themed around love, doomed to never truly enjoy romance in a positive way while helping others do exactly that. Dedicated to the goddess Sune, in more ways than one, but left unrequited and constantly teased with the false possibility of love. It is this conflict and contradiction I found most interesting about the character and what made me want to bring them to life, it’s where I always start. I enjoy taking two concepts that feel contradictory or incompatible and creating something compelling by connecting those gaps. He used his spell repertoire not just for their intended purpose but also as visual aids to help bring his points forwards. An example of this is as follows:
"No one can break your heart unless you let them. In a sense, you know that and that's why you are so afraid to trust others. The problem with that is, by punishing yourself with isolation, you are letting yourself break your heart. While there is control in that and you feel like you may be grounded by doing so, it is such a hallow and empty ground to stand on, it will suck the soul right out of you. You cannot mend a heart without replacing the missing pieces.” as he cast mending on torn paper heart.
One of my first SS14 characters was a robotics scientist in a failing body, blind, frail, unable to walk without assistance and otherwise deteriorating. Her goal was to use her new position to build a better body for herself, even if it meant being imprisoned by the laws of artificial life. They worked with their colleges, filed paperwork and if all else failed, took selfish action to ensure they didn’t meet the fate predetermined by their faulty vessel. This was before the simplification of Borg crafting where everything became condensed and easier to manage and around when station AI was released. I was very interested in playing AI but did not have enough playtime to play Borg, the perquisite. I had found that playtime after becoming a Borg mid round counted towards the requirement and thus I could unlock station AI before ever unlocking Borg in the first place. This character was an RP friendly way of doing so and added a lot of reasons to interact with people. Navigating the Borg building process while completely blind, easily getting lost and possibly even trapped if I wandered too far from my station and being slightly green meant having to rely on and put faith in those around me to complete my goals. It was very fun and I still occasionally bring her back for that reason.
