Your SS14 Username: Olantern87

Banning Admin's Username: Fluxie

Type of ban: Day Ban

Round ID (if applicable):

Reason for Ban: The ban reason is: "Over-escelation x1
As captain, ordered the clown to be killed, then cut off the clowns arm and foot because they were slipped and pied a few times."

What lead up to the ban: I was Playing as the captain and the clown pied me. In the span of around a minute i was pied around 3 times and also slipped. At the same time a roboticist asked to be warden. I saw how desperate they were for it and i had a idea. I could make the roboticist ward in exchange for them killing the clown. I did that and then Fluxie told me to not do that but i then got in a conversation that then took long enough to where the Ward had already killed the clown. Now i then asked Fluxie what should i do in this situation but the ward asked me to show the body. The original intention was to POR the clown but that changed because i imagine the Ward also spoke with Fluxie. I then cut off the limbs of the clown as to "teach the clown a lesson" because i wanted to still roleplay this situation. After i cut off the limbs i got a message from Fluxie saying that i couldn't cut of the clowns limbs. I then gave the clowns limbs to warden told them to bring the clowns limbs to medical and then they didn't. After that i was told that i was getting banned.

Why you should be unbanned: Its hard to convey how much the clown was "attacking" me before i set up the Hit. After i set up the hit they clown left me alone but i couldn't have know that. I was told that instead of ordering a hit i should've asked sec to beat them up which is a thing i could've done but i don't understand why this would be different. The round before this round was a admin event where command had to kidnap people and turn them into zombies so they wouldn't lose there job. In this scenario why is me killing someone for my own personal gain different from the round before that. You could say that losing your job is worse then getting thrown a pie in your face and that true i was just trying to play a bad command member. I was doing dubious things like killing a clown and selling my jetpack and i wanted to roleplay being a bad command member. I know that funky station is trying to get a more "evil" command staff what i did was heinous and it build roleplay. What i did with POR the clown is the same as most antags so i don't think that i could or is being argued that i was ruining roleplay for the clown. The only reason i was banned was for killing the clown instead of beating them up but the reason i did this was because it would be more discreet if it was a clown suicide rather then a mob of sec. Now that gets thrown out the window when i decide that i might as well mutilate the body as i cant really kill the clown to "teach the clown a lesson". I think that what i did is what funky station is moving towards with a more evil command staff. It is up to the players to interprate what a bad command staff should do. Should they steal? Should they batter? Should they kill? I think that if I'm going to commit a crime as command that could get me demoted i might as well make it murder rather then battery. I think that if you don't revoke my ban there should be created a guide of what to and not to do when making a morally wrong command member. Thank you for reading all of this. I hope either I'm unbanned or a guide made so this doesn't happen as often.

Hi,

I'll be handling this appeal without a vote, since it is a short ban.
I am going to deny this, as I agree with Fluxie that it was over-escalation, while also breaking rule 7 - "play your character". There are a few parts of the appeal I want to touch on and reply to in order to help clear things up for you:

The round before this round was a admin event where command had to kidnap people and turn them into zombies so they wouldn't lose there job. In this scenario why is me killing someone for my own personal gain different from the round before that.

When it comes to taking extreme actions, doing it with approval from admins, such as during an event, will always be different from someone deciding to do so on their own. The safe bet is to first ahelp and ask for approval before doing something that would normally be considered a rulebreak. Sometimes it can be ok depending on the roleplay leading up to it, but get admin approval first!

While we do want more evil command, you still need to follow escalation rules. The jump from getting pied in the face to murder is VERY drastic. Like Fluxie said, you could've started by having security just rough them up a bit to teach them a lesson. Or just fired them.

Now that gets thrown out the window when i decide that i might as well mutilate the body as i cant really kill the clown to "teach the clown a lesson".

This is just straight up not allowed, as Funky does not allow torture rp.

It is up to the players to interprate what a bad command staff should do.

It is not up to the players. Our rule 4 state that admin rulings are final. While you may play bad command staff, you still have to follow our other rules, and in this case, you did not follow proper escalation.

Should they steal? Should they batter? Should they kill? I think that if I'm going to commit a crime as command that could get me demoted i might as well make it murder rather then battery. I think that if you don't revoke my ban there should be created a guide of what to and not to do when making a morally wrong command member.

You may do all of those things, IF you escalate it properly according to rule 8 AND you still play a character that would believably be able to be hired, and keep their job as command according to rule 7. Even just hiring the roboticist as warden would've been going against rule 7, as that is in direct and open violation of NanoTrasen expectations.
We can not possibly make a guide with examples for every scenario that might arise, but if you are ever in doubt regarding if you are over-escalating or not, ahelp first and ask.
