His father died when a pneumatic drill burst during a deep-cut operation, leaving Dillon with a permanent distrust of "overloads" (any tech pushed too hard). By nineteen sixty (mining calendar reckoning), he'd earned his nickname after surviving a cave-in that shattered his jaw—he wired it shut with scrap metal and kept working.
These days, he operates as a freelance troubleshooter for surface-dwellers stupid enough to dig where they shouldn't. That's how he encountered the Wizard Federation's "recruitment" team—a gaggle of robed lunatics who mistook his worksite for a "leyline convergence." One particularly enthusiastic fur-clad sorcerer tried transmuting his pickaxe into a bouquet before Dillon headbutted him into a slurry pit.
