Little bit of a rant about ghost roles

disclaimer, this is a rant, I am not seeking validation, don't care about feedback, I am just mad and want to put this out there. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
The past like 4 rounds I have played I have been round removed, for whatever reason. Often people people refuse to take dead bodies to med to be revived. Fine whatever. My fault for one of them for joining late and not remembering to turn on coords
fine. I can handle dying, its part of the game. Me dying is not what the rant is about.

Round removal is what the rant is about. If I am your target, or I die to a ling, great. Part of the game, every gets their turn with those. Maybe I shouldn't have been in maints, maybe if I were more robust I would've gotten away. thats all fine.

Sec just leaving dead bodies to rot? not okay, but they get busy and it happens. Fine.

All of that I can deal with, I am frustrated in the moment, sad my shift as whatever role is over. I guess I will be a ghost role.

Alright, so my actual problem though.

mice ghost roles, moth ghost roles, etc. Why do you feel the need to treat them as KOS? what threat do they pose to you (unless you are a chef - even then you should handle it with rp, not with just a fucking straight up cleaver thrust)

Like legitimately. Often people who take ghost roles just had SOME KIND of really bad time. Why the fuck you gotta be mean to them? What the fuck did they ever do to you? especially the ones that are clearly players, squeeking, doing fucking flips, pointing at other players menacingly and trying to have fucking fun playing the game after their shift ended on their character.

Who the fuck are you to end that for them? at least role play with them, tell them to stay the fuck out of your kitchen or else.

600 blessings upon the medbay non KOS mice friends who are willing to spare topicals and dance with the mice who come to them for help. (this is a common occurrence)

I don’t try to kill piloted critters, but I’ll admit to sometimes culling AI ran ones. I’ve had too many bad experiences with zombie animals. Too many….

I think the issue is more that so many of the ghost roles are just killable vermin.

I spawned as a moth roach in a mail carton, but didn't know I was in a mail carton, so I was spamming to be let out, since the cargo person wasn't acknowledging me, and I assumed I was in a backpack or some other thing I couldn't escape from.
They threatened to space me if I didn't shut up (I had no idea I was in a box so like, fuck you bro, I just know I cannot move, you are not talking to me, and I want to play the game in this ghost role I just signed up for)
They throw my box against a wall.
Oh I am in a sealed mail thing. I will be quiet, sorry mr mail-man. please deliver me.
I get delivered. to. the. fucking. chef.
Chef throws my carton in the microwave after I squeek once to say hello
I'm not dead yet, they open it, I squeak again, they throw me back in the microwave
I try to escape under the counter and get stunned by a mouse trap and they throw me in a blender to finish me off.

Actual garbage human being behavior IMO - but to each their own.
yea. thats why I wrote a rant.
(side note, this was at the very least a violation of SOP - no animal cruelty, and possibly also a violation of rule 2: don't be a dick)

I KOS mice and other critters because they don't have rights and are an overall net negative for the station, as well as it's in character for me particularly to do so.

Usually, I use mice corpses for decoration or RP purposes. However, I've had cases where I've seen mice ghost role players snitch on antags or show where a dead body is located. I find that as a mouse player, you aren't entitled at all to the same necessities that a normal player would be entitled to.

Sorry you think people who are playing ghost roles aren't also people. Its not a question of "its a mouse in the game"
its a question of "its a human being in real life"

Role play with me. If your character hates mice, then go eep! and pick me up and throw me. Then I know not to interact with you if I am not willing to risk getting killed.
I've already been round removed once. Who are you to do it again except a dick?

Regarding the "overall net negative for the station"

Its a ROLE playing game. The tax of a mouse on the stations resources is negligible compared to the ROLE they fulfill by interacting with people in positive ways.

If the mouse is being a dick and eating all the chefs food? fucking kill it yea.
But if its piloted by a HUMAN PLAYER, and you kill it without provocation? You're fully just an asshole.

Melts To people like me your role when you're roleplaying a mouse is to be hit in the head with a toolbox and then be shoved in disposals

It's like friendlies in tf2. Since you're effectively a cockroach it's up to the others around you to decide your fate.

Is it a dick move? Yes. Should it be punished? No.

Plus, there's many more ghost roles and mice and such for you to choose when you die as a mouse

additional comment: its against Space law to harm non hostile sentient creatures. One could argue that this means "it can talk"
I think a better interpretation is whether a human is playing the character. Which is EASILY DETERMINED if you actually role play.

Also there's literally a role whose only job is to kill mice and other critters. I think this exemplifies how such critters should be viewed in a roleplaying perspective; not entitled to citizen's rights. (As harsh as that sounds)

I directly quoted the space law, and said you COULD interpret it to mean "only stuff that talks", but probably the more accurate way to interpret it is things controlled by players.

My tune never changed, its just a matter of how you define sentient, which I seem to define differently than you, but the terminology is unchanged in the actual laws.

Melts The SOP isn't a strict set of rules nor is it a list of job definitions. It's a set of loose guidelines to follow which are very malleable. The janitor is equipped with rat traps, garbage bags in which rats and critters may be placed, and their only literal job is to clean the station. Rats and critters are typically widely seen as "unclean" and so yes, it is the janitor's literal job to kill rats.
