If anyone is looking for a general botany guide, this one by Beatrix is very very useful!
occasionally as a chemist I'll get handed a plant by botany, and when I grind it up it has a list of chemicals going off the screen and like four thousand units of total volume.
is there any trick or method y'all use to get a bunch of chems on the same plant, or is it just quantity and hoping you win enough coin flips?

I was actually thinking about asking for a guide lol. But I wasn't sure if it would be like, too straightforward. It's the first job I ever played but I never figured out some of the complicated stuff

generally, the trick is to mutate it a LOT.
use 20u-25u or l4z to make sure you have the max effect.
Start flooding the plant with mutagen, there'll be a few things to look out for
Use your mini-hoe frequently, kudzu-ification is one of two major threats with mutating this much.
Additionally, stack up on phalanximine, and use it before healing the plant to avoid death gene killing the plant.
Since you'll be building up toxin levels on the plant, multiver will lower the levels, and diethylamine will definitely help with both health and getting the plant harvested early.
to help with preventing a kudzu-loose, EZ nutrient will help feed the plant while preventing weeds from getting too high. Also do remember to water them.
You'll probably kill the plant a few times, but don't be discouraged
EDIT: OH!! ALSO!! SWABBING!!
you can swab from dead plants onto other plants, so don't remove dead plants instantly!
Additionally, death gene is not carried by swabbing, so you don't need to worry!
I've been playing botany a lot again recently, so I figured I'd just post a quick, step by step simple starter guide for my typical botany process, involving using the biogenerator more:
Get 2 cocoa seeds. Plant them. Put 17 robust harvest into both.
Plant 1 ambrosia, poppy, galaxythistle, and aloe seed. Put 17 robust harvest into the aloe.
When the cocoa has reached full size, snipping tool it to have backup seeds in your belt.
Plant apple seeds. Use sterile swabs on the cocoa plant, then onto the apple seeds.
Wait for the apple trees to produce fruit - if they make 6 large apples that, when put in the biogenerator, make 6 biomass each, you're good to go. (This can also be done on other plants for the kitchens use, like big size, big yield carrots or tomatoes)
Snip the apple tree when fully grown to plant in another planter. Snip the newly planted tree when it's fully grown to get another seed to plant in another planter.
A plant that's old and wilting: cryoxodone. Plant looks unhealthy: diethyl and the giant cocoa pods for nutrients. There's other chemicals you can use, like multiver and stuff, but I just prefer using diethyl and cocoa pods. It works.
For Mutating Plants:
1.) Plant 1 seed of your choice in a planter to have as a backup source of seeds in case your mutations go awry. Snipping tool this plant, and when you harvest it, get a clean source of seeds from it's fruits.
2.) Plant X Number of seeds to mutate.
3.) Put 25 units of Left-4-Zed into each. Set a timer for 75 seconds (1u of chemicals metabolized by plants every 3 seconds. 25 units, 75 seconds. 30 units, 90 seconds. Etc)
4.) After 75 seconds, put 5-10 units of unstable mutagen in so managing the mutations is easier.
5.) Keep sterile swabs on standby. If you mutate something like ambrosia deus, but it obviously going to die, swab the plant with as many swabs as you'd like. Then, swab these onto a plant like egg-plants - the omnizine gene in the previously unhealthy, now dead donor plant can be transferred into a healthier egg-plant, instead. Each swab has a 50% chance to transfer every trait the donor plant had, so the odds are good to transfer omnizine or another chemical onto an egg-plant. Especially if you swab it 5 times, its a 97% transfer chance (but also a 97% transfer chance of the genes that killed the original plant.)
You can easily produce 1000s of biomass using these apples, it's just slightly click intensive. If you ask science for a biocube fabricator, you can put your biomass into there and produce monkey and kobold cubes for even cheaper. OR, as an antagonist, you can emag the biocube generator in order to print things like space carp, abominations, space ticks, and other creatures using plasma.
There was a thing with kudzu, right? Like if it breaks out it kills the plant but won't trigger on other plants of the lineage or something?
Also I definitely remember snipping a plant removing its seeds - was that a different server or something?
