CC VIP General Discussion

Post by Northern_Wings »

"Glory to Nanotrasen."

Hi all, starting a thread here for us CC VIP players to discuss things such as:

  • Audits

  • Class # Punitive Actions

  • Tips

For the sake of starting discussion, how do you guys like to start a round? I think that it's very important, and sets the tone between the NTR/IAA roles, at the very least. When I'm NTR, I like to summon my IA minions to my office for a brief, tell them we'll be auditing all departments, etc.

Second, and a bit more topical/meta, how can we add a better roleplay experience to a shift? Obviously, there's no correct answers for this one. Our roles essentially come down to aura farm and die.

I used to do a comms briefing but I got tired of going through the same things constantly. So I just made an "operational expectations" form that I send to the IAA office roundstart and if they have any questions they can ask. It also makes for great reference so they don't have to ask in the future.

I also make an effort to keep note of every IAA I see and if I see one that I'm not familiar with I'll usually ask them if they're new since I don't recognize them. I love to sit and train new IAAs, every IAA I've trained has become some of my most effective ones it's great.

Overall though playing as a CCV is fun because you can just be wildly pedantic about stuff and act like a haughty asshole. I love the rounds where people are doing stupid shit and I get to do an ungodly amount of paperwork.

Probably my favorite thing is that Surichichimo as an NTR is known for being an unhinged little freak when in reality he is probably the most patient and relatively reasonable NTR otherwise. OOC I tend to follow an escalation path when it comes to punitive measures.

Warning + having the relevant head of staff talk with the person -> Class 1 if behavior doesn't improve -> Class 2 if it goes further or behavior still doesn't improve.

I may skip over the warning to a class 1 if it's something especially egregious however majority of the time a warning suffices.

Probably something that frustrates me with a lot of other CCV players, especially NTR/Magis, is that they don't document enough. I'm always documenting in detail everything that leads up to a punitive measures, regardless if it's a proper job report or just one of the letters I send to CC. You should always be sending this documentation to CC even if you're not getting a response because it shows a proper chain of escalation to the admins that led to this occurring.

Something else that bugs me about some CCVs is that they'll see someone who is obviously new to something and instead of giving some leniency they make it more difficult for that player. I.e a new chemist learning chems getting harassed by CCVs for not having basic chems out yet. Thats not enjoyable for a new player and could lead to them not wanting to learn that role further (I don't think NT would be very happy with their IAAs running new hires off now would they?).

You should be giving them grace and try to find someone who can teach them in their department. It is a department head's job to ensure all their employees are trained properly.

Honestly, how I start my round is pretty much waiting a minute or five then I just start walking around, go around departments see how they are doing and such, not much.

For the second thing I do have one little thing to say, I see too many CC VIPs go around caring about antags and such, and imo a CC VIP should never have anything to do with antags, even during delta and such I think the CC VIPs should try and escape instead of fight, you don’t see a pencil pusher grabbing a gun during a terrorist attack, and honestly my rule of thumb is that CC VIPs should never lay a hand on any guns, swords are fine, I like knifes and swords.

I am relatively new to Funky and SS14 as a whole, so I've only poked IAA thus far, still getting in my hours to get even close to unlocking the other two. That said, I find my favorite way to start any round is to print my Daily Affirmations for Internal Affairs Agents paper and place it in my office in a place of honor, and to give Engineering roughly 10 minutes to set up before I go straight for them for an audit, every single time. Elegy Epsen justifies this as Engineering being the department that needs to "get it together" the fastest each round, and they understand it well enough. Then, in round context, I determine which Department sounds the messiest from their comms, and move to audit them next. I find I get roughly two audits in per round, I strive to be very thorough and focus more on RP with individual employees than just rush audits out the gate. It leads to SIGNIFICANTLY more exciting interactions.

Regarding the Antag CCV involvement problem: Unless I watch someone get killed in an antagonistic manner blatantly in front of me, which happened exactly once when a changeling stared me down while it consumed someone's body and I merely watched and comm'd it to NTR Suri, I IC blatantly ignore anything I OOC note as OBVIOUSLY antagonistic, on the basis that Elegy Epsen does not expect this shift to be a messy one. Each round start puts years of experience behind them where nothing notable happened, and Elegy has the "ha, it'll never happen to me!" mindset until it's OBVIOUS that there is a threat aboard the station. Then they lock in solely on making sure Corporate Secrets are maintained. I do not believe you will ever see Elegy wield a weapon. They would rather bluespace out than raise a FINGER in self defense of themself that is not beating someone with their briefcase.

One more reply, actually, thought of a bit more to add to this one.

I don't know how to improve the experience Overall, but I know the way I strive to play CCV, and any role in this game really, is an emphasis on the enjoyment of anyone I'm rp'ing with. If they bounce off my roleplay with some of their own, then I will really lean into it with them. Likewise, if someone seems a bit disinterested, I'll pull back a bit. This especially applies to new players, who I really want to enjoy the game as best they can. I learned all this stuff mere weeks ago, I remember how it felt when I was training in security and the station AI kept berating everything I did IC. I knew it wasn't serious but it still was discouraging.

Basically, if I can help players get comfortable with the game enough that they can start being comfy to engage with RP once they aren't just learning how to play to begin with, then I am very happy. As an IAA, that means teaching them their SOP patiently. I have enjoyed many cases of enlightening cargo members to the joys of blue slip storage.
