How old are you?
23

Have you read the requirements, and ensured you meet them?
Of course!

How many hours do you have on Funky?
Overall: 754h
Security: 465h
Science: 118h ( 513h if you count research assistant. This is a long story )
Medical: 319h
Engineering: 140h
Command: 176h
Central Command: 92h
Cargo: 96h
Service: 592h

Did not count intern hours above.

Have you helped with whitelists before, or played Nanotrasen Career Trainer on New Player Weekend? Please elaborate on which one.
I did neither, but I was interested in the latter.

What tips you off that a player might be a good fit for Funky, if anything?
They don't optimise the fun out of the game, both for themselves and others. To clarify my thoughts - funky is a server that places roleplay at the forefront. Many SS14 players who are not fit for funky are those who treat it purely as a game. When I see someone who messes up on purpose, roleplays a character lacking knowledge they possess OOC and puts effort into acting out situations in-character, I know that funky is the right server for them.

Have you ever had an interesting or fun experience helping a new player? If so, tell us about it.

I was a mentor on Wizden Grasshopper, if anyone remembers that old lovely hunk of junk. That is to say, me, alongside several self-proclaimed mentors, would make it their goal to teach every new player. In addition, I made it my goal to teach them not only game mechanics, but the importance of roleplay in a roleplay game. I fended off raiders countless times, taught dozens of players medical, engineering and cargo work... I miss Grasshopper, even if it was a honeypot for anyone looking to drive players away.

My favourite experience teaching a player on funky is a recent one. A medical intern had their first shift ever, and I took it upon myself as a CMO to teach them the basics. Along the way, they realised they took the smoker trait, and we went on a small adventure during which we found a cigvend and I explained to them how to light a smoke. The player thanked me in post-round OOC chat for teaching them topicals, chems and a bit of surgery. Seeing someone struggling, and then slowly learning how to get better at what they are doing is great.

How do you like to teach interns or new players, if at all?

I dedicate time to teach them most things IC. Whatever cannot be explained, I use help chat for. Sometimes I find myself giving help chat tips to new players that are obviously a new antag ( Of course, I do not act upon the knowledge in any way IC ). If a new player is in my department, I often request that they are assigned to me.

As for my teaching methods, I focus on making them learn by themselves. What is important is that they figure how to do stuff their own way. Forcing my own preferences, keybinds or strategies on someone is something I try to avoid.

What areas of the game would you say are your strong suit, if any?

Back on wizden, I used to teach almost every department across the board, including command. Nowadays, I am a filthy medical and security main, but I still have the knowledge necessary to help any department. I could have some issues with engineering, but I am beginning to learn the funky specific reactors.

What is your favorite department? Why is it your favorite department?

My favourite department has to be medical. The knowledge that skill is rewarded by making other players get back to playing their characters faster is satisfying. On top of that, it has several layers of complexity, with the simplest "click them" topicals, more advanced surgery to chemicals, which you can even make mixes of yourself. It is a good stairwell of raising difficulty.

Tell us a fun fact you know about the game. The more niche, the better.

Did you know that when the inventory system updated from a point value to the grid it is today, huge protest erupted? Players refused to accept it. Before the grid, items had a set "weight" value, and your bag listed them in a bullet point list with a limited weight capacity.

Tell us about a roleplay moment you fondly remember.

My favourite roleplay moment has to be a shift during which a character of mine, that being Chrissy Talisman, became sick. At shift start, she drank in the bar and the bartender seemingly made a drink with something vulpkanin are allergic to. When another patron asked me if I am well, I decided to play up the consequences, slowly making my character more ill as the shift progressed.

I enjoyed how people reacted to my progressively more nonsensical articles and the help I got from others. A fellow reporter even helped her completely black out their office with curtains and by taking out the lightbulbs!

I noticed that the best roleplay usually comes from fully commiting to the bit, even if it makes you less effective at your job, antag or not. As long as you play out your character and try to achieve your objectives ( In this case making articles ), it has great potential!

Are you committed to keeping up with mechanics changes and learning them so you may teach new players, and presenting a friendly, helpful face in our community?

I want to help new players and do it in a manner that is respective of both funky station and the player themselves. I already try to help out in the discord mentor help ( Even if I wasn't very active there recently ), and I try to avoid controversy.

So, to answer the question. Yes, I am commited to keeping up with mechanics changes and learning about them so I may teach new players. I intend to present a friendly and helpful face in the funky community.

Are you willing to assist admins with whitelists by helping look over and pre-approve them?

Sure! As long as I can do them during my free time and not in a discord meeting, I will gladly check them out!
