Opinions on las-sec?

Post by BrickKent »

i'm not particularly fond of las-sec because it just doesn't feel particularly good to play as (inability to carry extra ammo, time consuming recharge, low burst damage, inability to recharge during a large threat [no power], no bleed damage [or decals], no boom.) or against (shooting through windows, no bleed to manage, only one medicine needed to counter, not the same fear factor.)

i'm just curious as to what y'all think about it because i know it's the direction funky is heading towards.

also i don't think that las-sec is an horrible concept; it makes sense that NT, a company, would use weapons that work off of power which is cheap- while the syndicate, a (sort of) terrorist organization, uses weapons that can strike hard and strike fast and can operate alone.
imo if the laser weapons used power cells (ex: goobstation "taro" revolver) and had more weapon variety (like traumastation) they would be much more fun to play with.

I mean most of the energy weapons can't actualy shoot through windows. I think the only weapon introduced that does is the Pistol.

The main bulk of the armoury is also generaly higher damadge or equivilent to standard weapons, along with the bleed equivilent being replaced with caustic which is a pain to cure (and you can deal with peircing much faster than heat in the first place).

You also can reload on the go most of the weapons aside for the R2G which isn't supposed to be a tool for actual engagements in the first place, its an emergancy option. Most of the Pharon weapons are faster to reload on top of that as you just have to click the vials.

ah right, i completely forgot about phoron weapons being part of las-sec, i was just thinking about the laser carbine and R2G lmao.

I honestly think it should go in the opposite direction. Lazers feel too surgical for me. I really like the militarized feel of sec when they have guns. They are also way more fun to use imo, reloading and handling them with ammo is way more satisfying than running to a recharger.
Also heavily personal opinion but shooting lazers feel like "pew pew" guns especially with the slow projectile speed. A lazer rifle feels less powerful than a handgun. The only lazer I enjoy using is the captains one but psuedo-hitscan is too powerful for regular weaponry.

None of these are "design" arguments but just personal preference, I am sure they have some very valid reasons to switch to las-sec
