Reckless disobedience – when does it become a rulebreak?

Post by snoobie »

Hi admins. :dinonug3:

First, a background to explain what the hell I'm talking about.

As a longtime command main, I've had to put up with a lot of characters just completely ignoring what I'm saying. Whether it's just completely ignoring what work I've delegated them in favour of doing something I don't want done, needlessly holding up work by refusing to communicate with the department, or even actively shittalking their own boss over the radio after being told to do anything at all, it's gotten really frustrating. Of course, I don't expect people to get along perfectly with my characters, or even like them at all. But the rate at which I encounter characters that act like this is really exhausting for a whole bunch of reasons.

This kind of behaviour feels like a Rule 7 violation. You're expected to play a character that could work at NanoTrasen, and someone who is incapable of following orders would be filtered out really quickly.

Onto the question: Is this a correct interpretation of Rule 7? Should I ahelp people who play characters like this or leave it purely as an IC issue?

I definitely feel your frustration. Getting people to do what you want them to as command can be challenging.

To answer your question first, things like this become a rule 7 violation when someone completely acts outside of the spirit of their job, or their department, entirely. Things like a warden acting like an officer and primarily arresting people, a chemist refusing to make any medication, or an engineer leaving the department at the start of the round to act like a tider with free insuls.

The things you've outlined here, people refusing to listen, communicate, or shit talking their boss, are not currently against the rules and instead things to be resolved In Character. Command has a lot of freedom in firing people from their department for this reason.

It may be worth for us to bring this up at an admin hour to see if more players feel this frustration, and if the proper response is admin action or leaving it to be resolved In Character.
