Halyna is a transgender 39 years old female vulpkanin originating from the Elaris system, more specifically on the snowy moon Elaris-8. Her features mostly ressembling that of an arctic fox, she's very well adapted to cold climates.
She received several genetic modifications making her hair appear a dark navy and her torso fur appear sky blue, on top of genetic modifications made during her transition.
She comes from a relatively family, her mother being a very respected nurse at one of Elaris-8's biggest hospital, who made her and her sister, Esther, pursuit medical studies.
As Halyna got her doctorate and was about to began her carrier as a nurse in her mother's hospital, conflicts between the two majors states of Elaris-8 began to worsen, with war soon to follow, which prompted Halyna to enroll as a combat medic, her state promising very tempting pay (above what she'd make as a doctor) and while she'd never admit it now, she was looking for the thrill of it.
Halyna joined the 6th Peacekeeping Squadron, which was tasked to operate in captured enemy cities to cleanup any resistance forming, and keeping the peace. She would come to heavily regret this whole thing as she was forced to both witness AND participate in attrocities, such as summary execution of civilians suspected of being disguised enemy combatants, to full on guiding incendiary strikes on buildings suspected of being resistance hotspots. While being clearly ordered not to, she often sneakily gave aid to the civilians of those cities, acts mostly overlooked by her superiors.
When the war ended in her state's favor, the army quickly reduced their numbers and Halyna was one of those who were forced to retire, to her actual relief. Having made enough money to buy her and her sister a small spacefaring ship, they both decided to leave Elaris-8, their mother staying as she took her own retirement. They were both doing odd jobs, often time offering their medical services to other crews, sometimes including pirates, to small scale smugling, to bounty hunting. After some time of that, they were both recruited by NanoTrasen, Halyna being hired as a medical doctor and a security officer (thanks to her military background) on NT stations, while her sister was hired to serve on the frontier, mostly doing what both were already doing, but at the service of the local NT authorities.
She does not speak much of her time in the army, only opening up to people who know and/or understand her struggle, but she still manages to present a smiley facade, burying her traumatized self in her work. Thankfully for her, all she had to deal with were petty crimes and workplace accidents, so far...
