Briefly describe the background and/or personality of a character you enjoy playing (Can be SS14, DND, or a character you just made up!): I'm the forever DM of my D&D group so I don't really have characters on that end beyond the few recurring NPCs I have, but I think more notably for this application, My go to character would probably be my long standing SS13 character I used to play back in the day. Joseph Tan, or as he liked to be called Grandpa Tan.
They were a 63-year-old chef who picked up the role of a space station cook because they were lonely. They never married, and they didn't have any living family, so they used their position as a cook to try and serve up quality meals to the crew while dispensing advice to troubled customers as they waited for their orders. They had a flair for trying to make some of the most complex dishes possible and always strived for quality in their ingredient selection. There were a lot of fun times had in the kitchen with that character. Most notably, I was one of the few chefs that actually put food onto plates instead of just slapping it on the table, just to go that extra mile. I think my character really thrived when I had help in the kitchen, and I could act as the patient teacher who could help my fellow kitchen staff thrive and go beyond just your standard hamburgers or deep-fried shoes.
I think that's generally the vibe I go for with my characters, very wholesome types who like to do diligent work just for the love of the game. If accepted here, I think I'd aim for a character of a similar vein that I can build up all the more and flesh out into a beloved member of the crew. Some key traits that I lean towards, though is they'll probably be a friendly old person of some sort, less wacky than what some other characters might be, but ultimately I'd strive to fit in as best I could.
What made you join Funky Station?: After catching a glimpse of the server from a YouTube video (This one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGg97FG0FGg&t=308s) I thought the server seemed fun and engaging. I like the idea of a roleplay server that feels fun without being so loose that there are no real characters but not so strict that people are unable to express themselves. I think this place, based on what I'm seeing, hits that perfect sweet spot.
