Reason for Ban:

Hey, got a notice that I've been given a ban for use of AI to assist when writing news articles.

What lead up to the ban:

An ingame admin (I forget who) contacted me mid-round, discussed what I was doing, and did not reprimand me. I obviously took that conversation to mean that what I was doing was fine.

I used ChatGPT to "top & tail" my articles to maintain a consistent style while writing at a zillion WPM while things are going on. I believed the "no AI content" rule to mean literal "content" and that I couldn't use it to actually write the substance of my articles rather than asking for formatting assistance to get a consistent style, but I now understand that the 0 tolerance policy is absolute in relation to all use, full stop.

Why you should be unbanned:

If unbanned - I will not do that again now that I understand the rule fully.

I would like to further add - I love playing reporter - I love sniffing out stories - creating a narrative through the use of the news PDA. I've had some great feedback in the few days since I've started playing on funky to the news articles I've written and the sleuthing I've done, and I'd love to keep doing that within the spirit of your rules.

Actually I am a little confused, after reading things over again, the game server rules printed on this forum don't mention no use of AI, it's only mentioned in the discord rules. I was not using AI for any content I posted in the discord so perhaps this rule has been applied wrongly? Would appreciate a ruling/clarification there as it would obviously change the situation if so.

We don't allow AI period on Funky. I understand it's not directly on the game rules but I genuinely don't understand why people wouldn't assume if we don't allow it on the Discord we would allow it in a game where we focus on roleplay and human-interaction.

Hi, I'll be handling your appeal today.

This one sparked a lot of discussion internally on how to handle the situation. The team voted 1/1/13 accept/deny/other, with other votes being split between a dewhitelist and a roleban for reporter.

With a new vote of 8/9, dewhitelist/roleban, the admin team has voted to reduce this ban to an indefinite roleban for reporter.

You are right that AI usage is not specifically listed out in our game rules, though it is a general rule within our community. Within our rules it primarily falls under NITRP, or "no intent to roleplay." In short, especially for roles like reporter, the appeal is a person actually writing and reporting on the events on station, with styles and decorations made by them. But this goes for other jobs too, genuine interaction is at the core of SS14 roleplay.

While I understand that you greatly enjoy playing reporter, we did decide to lower this ban to a roleban for that role specifically. We would like to see you engage with the game without AI usage before we as a team are allowing you back on the reporter role. You may appeal this roleban in a month.
