their homeplanet, a rural, agrarian planet had mysteriously become a biohazard due to slag falloff from plasma gases. this, of course unrelated to any possible corporation's doings, forced eek-eepa off of their home planet, away from their family, and into crowded satellites. they took this misfortune as opportunity and sought hard, honest work to achieve their dream of a middle class life.
they signed with nanotrasen, tempted by the promise of a 401k and continuing education credits. here they slaved away as a salvager and part-time cargo technician until they were able to find their passion in chemistry, and due to their employer's generous offers, enrolled in a work-study program to get their bachelor's in premed.
with years of experience under their belt as a senior chemist and occasional chief medical officer, they were able to retire peacefully with a hearty retirement plan and health benefits.
...but recent nanotrasen budget cuts have targeted previously "dishonest" and "inefficient" social benefits, so they might need to rethink their retirement plan.
