Briefly describe the background and/or personality of a character you enjoy playing (Can be SS14, DND, or a character you just made up!):
Right, so I've got this wizard in D&D 5th ed I played for a couple years with my in-person TTRPG group (we're on hiatus, the DM for the campaign had a kid). He's a wizard named Niketas Kalleris, devout worshipper of Nyx, the greek embodiment of primordial night. He's a battlefield control illusion mage, but that's the least important thing about him, because he also runs a business that specializes in cursed and/or dangerous magic items. He doesn't make them, he's in acquisitions and resale. So, when a bunch of newbie adventurers walk into a dungeon and find something nasty the hard way, he's the guy who shows up and offers to buy whatever almost killed them for enough to cover their medical expenses and a bit extra with minimal judgement and an offer of employment. He's not doing it for charity, he's doing it because he's in the arms trade.
In the fairly standard medieval fantasy world he lives in, you've got various landed nobles with lots of cash and rivalries who need to have an edge when some jackass necromancer, horde of orcs, or second cousin shows up and start a cabinet war. He's not good or evil, he's just the guy who happens to fill a market niche for people who need weapons of mass magical destruction who don't seem likely to use them on him.
In terms of personal views, he views society through the lens of the Chicago School of Economics, so he generally acts a bit sociopathic as a matter of course. He's completely sane, but he's a self-serving son of a bitch who will absolutely step on your neck to climb the social ladder, and justifies it to himself as a necessity. If you've ever worked in a corporate office, you know the type.
As a brief aside, I made the character because my personal views are quite a bit different and it seemed like a funny idea for what was going to be a one-off session that had some scope creep. I had considerably more fun with the concept than I thought I would, probably thanks to a couple critical success rolls that led to political shenanigans in game.
What made you join Funky Station?:
I like some roleplay in my spaceman disaster simulators, and I've seen a couple Youtube videos of shifts on Funky that looked like fun. I also haven't played any SS14 in a while and I have the urge. I guarantee my own incompetence at every role, and promise only that I may cause some potential regrets when I inevitably screw up.
