Braden’s shitguide to IAA!

Post by IdemFromidemland »

Before anything else, you are a NON COMBATIVE OBSERVER it is not your job to deal with criminals or anything like that, unless there is a station ending threat you do not ask for any kind of weaponry and you NEVER hunt people, would you find it fun if a pencil pusher suddenly ended your thievery run? Didn’t think so.

So, you are looking to become an IAA! Amazing, before you begin please know that this job is definitely not for everyone, if you do not like paperwork and being a corporate asshole this job may not be fun for you. You might’ve been wondering why this job requires lawyer hours and the only reason for that is to get you used to the feel of a RP only job, you have close to zero mechanical power please note IAA has nothing to do with spacelaw. I suggest you try out IAA for the first time when there is an NTR in game, it gives you the best feel for what you’ll be doing.

What are your duties? Two main things, SoP and paperwork. Most of the time the NTR will ensure command follows SoP and you will make sure the rest of crew follows SoP, however shit you think SoP is doesn’t matter you still have to enforce it.
Paperwork is the backbone of an IAA, you will fill out reports on the crew and will most likely be asked to prepare NDAs for briefing on corporate secrets or command hires, more on this later. It is also important you send faxes! So, long story short Central Command will want updates from the station which you get to write! Just send an update about the station’s status and how it’s going make it look official stamp and sign it and send that paper in the fax to central!
Few notes here, I heavily suggest looking in this: https://github.com/northern-wings/Norths-Funky-Forms for templates however I heavily suggest making your own if you have the time. don’t worry about admins being annoyed about you faxing central, they tend to actually really like it!

Corporate secrets! The thing you will protect at any cost, I hope you’ve read the metashield because trust me, you’ll need it. As a CC VIP you are in charge of corporate secrets, if people leak them you get to order them hunted down and punished! General command SoP forces command to listen to CC VIP’s advice about corporate secrets, if you decide the situation isn’t bad enough to justify revealing corporate secrets command has to listen to you, 99% of the time command wants to reveal corporate secrets way too early, sometimes this completely ruins an antag’s experience before they can do anything and in character central would not want corporate secrets revealed to anyone that isn’t command unless during absolute emergencies.
IMPORTANT: CC VIPs know about everything in the CTM
Note: You are here to add more roleplay to the game, not to win. If you have a play to win mindset please go back to playing other roles until you lose that mindset
Note2: If there is a magi or NTR on station they will PROBABLY deal with corporate secrets, don’t trust those lazy assholes tho.
Note3: If someone leaks corporate secrets you have the authority and are expected to execute them

So, other people’s enjoyment. I’m going to be honest this one is quite important, there are a few very important things, one of them is: you should probably ignore any antags that aren’t killing someone, fucking with you (if an antag does something funny with you just have some fun and act along) or a station ending threat.
General rule of thumb, if it doesn’t have to do with you and it isn’t killing anyone or isn’t a station ending threat don’t report it! (If it’s a snowball antag like heretic or ling you should report that shit to command real fast) you will have to use your own judgement but please always remember, antags are there to make the round more interesting for everyone so please don’t ruin their round 5 minutes in or for that matter don’t ruin an antag’s round unless it’s very dangerous to the station, you aren’t sec.
You will be reprimanding things for small things, poeple might get annoyed with this, please expect being punched a little and please always remember, IC comments aren’t against you they are against a fictional character so please, do not take them personally.
(this should be very obvious) if someone LOOC says they are uncomfortable with something you do shut that shit down immediately (unless its an antag bitching about them being caught, this should be obvious)

However sometimes people fuck around and you have to make them find out, this is where punitive punishments come in, you as an IAA can only issue class one punitive punishments if you talk with the NTR about them, HOWEVER you can use the NTR to issue class two punishments. And guess what? Manipulating a NTR isn’t so hard, go try it out! Go fuck with your local NTR and captain!
Important thing, READ THE SOP PART ON PUNITIVE PUNISHMENTS

(If I made any mistakes in this guide please tell me so)

this is really nice since i've been working up to IAA and nervous about starting it :) knowing that i'll have to be faxing CC often (and should prepare my own forms. scary stuff) is appreciated

at what point do you think a threat on-station is finally enough to warn non-command about? lings are pretty easy to avoid naming directly since you can just say it's A Maints Killer, but things like blob and cults feel more vague and even more destructive

So, putting yourself in the mind of a corporate asshole you’ll (probably) be the one advocating for keeping massive dangers a secret to the crew then any cost, your job is to hide that anything of importance even happened, of course most of the time you can’t hide that security armed but you can hide what happened. To actually answer your question, you literally cannot blobs a secret it’s impossible, cults you should try and hide from the crew unless octurine/delta is declared nukies are uh… nukies, long story short unless the station is about to be nuked or taken over by an eldritch entity you probably want to keep the danger a secret to the crew, getting the reporter to make an article with tips like ‘stay out of maints’ is never a bad idea
