Briefly describe the background and/or personality of a character you enjoy playing:
For the longest time I have played a character by the name of Clara LaCroix, who started off as a rather blank slate of a character but has evolved over roughly four years to become a blasé, no-nonsense (more often minimal-nonsense) member of the command/janitorial/security staff on board the many flavours of NT-SS14.
She's aspirational within reason; content with taking her time climbing the Nanotrasen corporate ladder. She's rarely seen without her clipboard, and does things by the books: She files forms, asks other people to file forms, chews people out for not filing their forms, ends up filing them herself, and then collates her paperwork for her superiors to review after the end of the shift.
Despite being a company-lady she's adamant on people taking their (allowed) time off of work during the shift to utilize the various services on board, socialize with the other crew, and make the chef feel appreciated.
I have (too) many other characters, all with their own various personalities, but she is by far the one I have invested the most playtime into.
What made you join Funky Station?:
I used to play on Wizden's Salamander server back when it had a meta-shield and it's own Standard Operating Procedure, and continued playing for some time after both were removed.
More recently due to my dissatisfaction with Wizden's degrading roleplay standards I moved to the friendly Moffstation, which unfortunately also lacks a meta-shield or SOP, but has a much higher standard for RP and behaviour. Some of Moff's maintainers are Funky regulars, and since I am a casual mapper & spriter Funky/Forky's codebase was naturally brought to my attention when discussing sprite-work styles, features and qualities of life to possibly port over, and design philosophies.
(we are currently trialing our own common-channel removal based on Funky's decision to do the same)
I curiously sought out the Funky Station Github to peruse sprites and mapping features and found myself reading design documents for the SOP and the intriguing Corporate Secrets/Internal Affairs Department used to enforce the unique, partial meta-shield system, and the desired class-conscious, slower roleplay theme the server is moving towards.
I've been meaning to expose myself to more downstream servers for some time now, and have been longing for a server with a robust SOP and meta-shield even longer: So learning of the current and future direction that Funky wishes to move in was a very pleasant surprise.
I'm looking forward to trying the server out on the next open-day and exploring the roleplay culture and features the server has to offer (such as the nuclear reactor)!
